The Face of FOX Toledo Blog

As the Face of FOX Toledo, my job description is always adapting and evolving.  I'm often given an assignment at a moment's notice and expected to be brilliant and cool-headed.  I'm really enjoying the challenge of it all!  Lately I was given a brand new task that I'm fairly certain no other "Face" will have the privilege of completing.

Right now in our run-of-the-mill, mid-size city of Toledo, Ohio, a pretty important federal court trial is taking place.  Three men have been accused of being terrorists, plotting to kill American military.  Because cameras are not allowed in the courtroom, the best way to show news viewers what's going on is with drawings.  Hhmmm...... who do we know at FOX Toledo that posseses artistic ability?  Why, Julia, of course!  That's right, I'm now the official sketch artist for the news.  I've been assigned to capture the events on paper, using graphite and colored pencils, crayons, and even magic marker to get the point across.

I'm extremely grateful for this opportunity.  In additon to being privy to all the interesting evidence, I'm also improving on many artistic skills.  I am learning to work very quickly!  (These guys will not sit still.)  I'm also learning to concentrate acutely on my subject matter.  And just so you know, this is nothing like what you see on tv.  Everything's very calm, and there's even a bit of levity in the courtroom.  The court marshalls are congenial, and the defense attorneys even let me sit in their row so that I can get a better view of the proceedings.  (I had to bring binoculars with me because I'm so far away from the witness stand.)

My infamous sketches have already been airing on FOX Toledo News, as well as on Channel 13, and there are many more depictions to come.  The funny thing is, I think my drawings are getting more air-time than I do!
